Bathroom rebuild

Strip-out to the slab, new falls, full waterproofing membrane, tiling and fittings. Ponding-tested twice and handed over cleaned.

Why leaks come back

Most "fixed" bathrooms were re-tiled over the old screed. Scroll — this is what we actually rebuild.

1Structural slabWe hack right back to it. No building on top of the old problem.
2Screed, laid to fallWater has to run to the trap. Most "fixed" floors are flat or fall the wrong way.
3Waterproofing membraneTurned 300mm up every wall and over the kerb. This is the layer that was missing.
4Protection screedSo tiling doesn't puncture the membrane we just paid for.
5TileThen a 48-hour ponding test, photographed at both ends, before anything else goes in.
